This necklace features a pendant of Purple Heart wood with an inlay of our Tiger Maple Tree wood, surrounded by a silver fillet. Before I worked the pendant to final shape, the spalding in the wood looked like a howling wolf.  The pendant is strung to the strands by a free-swinging arrangement featuring silver bead accents and a silver wire coil.  Each side strand is one piece and is laminated Bird’s Eye maple, Purple Heart wood and deer ribs, with a handmade hammered silver coil to cap it all off. The “hang’ is u-shaped. This necklace has a “sister” (Item WSN2). It is strung on an adjustable 2mm burgundy dyed leather cord.

This is the ‘sister’ necklace to item WSN1. The pendant is made from the same individual pieces of wood, Purple Heart and our Tiger Maple.  The Tiger Maple is an inlay surrounded by a silver fillet. As the pendant was ‘worked down’ the spalding in the maple changed dramatically, but if one has a vivid imagination, the wolf is still there.  The pendant is hung from the strands by a double, up-side-down “V” of hammered silver, made from one piece of silver wire. The ‘strand’ on this necklace is a “V” configuration and a single piece, and is made of Purple Heart and Tiger Maple woods, and deer ribs, capped, like its sister, with hammered silver coils.  Strung on an adjustable burgundy 2mm leather cord.

This necklace is one of my recurring themes.  It is popular and enjoyable to make.  At present, 3/21/06, there are 5 of them ‘out there’.   The pendant is made from a ‘shed’ whitetail deer antler ‘burr’, with an inlay of actual deer hoof in the shape of a deer track.  Each strand features three high quality, modern iridescent glass beads, two handmade bone hairpipes, and six hammered, coiled silver spacers.  The necklace is strung on brown dyed, 2mm leather cord, and is adjustable.  Earrings for this set don’t last long around here, but I can make more if you request them.

This necklace also has a few sisters, out there.  The pendant is a whitetail burr featuring a hummingbird and floral scrimshaw. There are double strands each side, featuring ‘mismatched” hairpipes made of turkey wing bone segments, high quality modern green glass beads, and brass spacers.  I mixed metals for this necklace, the strands are capped with round wire silver coils.  The necklace is strung on brown 2mm leather cord.  Adjustable.

Very simple in appearance, pretty complex to make, this is one of my favorite necklaces.  The pendant piece is a shed whitetail antler burr, scrimshawed with our native antelope, the pronghorn.  Just above the pendant, and incorporated in the necklace Strand is a cabochan of Leopard Jasper set in a silver bezel, inlaid into a piece of shed deer antler. Then on each side are two silver beads, and another piece of deer antler, these each inlaid with a piece of very blue turquoise in a silver bezel.   The necklace is strung on 4- braid, brown 4mm leather cord of fixed length, 18”.   If you wish, we could easily affix a silver hook clasp at any length you desire.

The Ten Point Necklace is just one of my best pieces of work to date.  The pendant is a fairly large shed whitetail antler burr, scrimshawed with a fine, mature typical 10 point, whitetail buck. Working up the strands there are two silver beads, a piece of antler inlaid with a turquoise Cabochan with a silver bezel.  Then there is spacer of red pipestone (or Catlinite.  Above this is a section of deer rib, scrimshawed with a white oak branch.   Above this is a spacer of Osage Orange, the tip from an Osage bow I made.  The strands are capped with a piece of horn, blond on one side, black on the other, and then a silver wire coil.  Strung on 2mm brown leather cord.  Adjustable.
