Brass Bleeding Heart Item Number: Price: $125 |
This piece is one of the new ones for 2006. It was once part of a frost- broken brass water valve. With a little bit of hammer work, and a lot of file work, it has become the extrapolation of a very traditional 18th century adornment. Strung on hand-dyed 2mm burgundy leather cord, it is accented with two hand made wooden and bone beads of Southwestern Ironwood and Blood Wood, as well as 4 original Blue Padre trade beads.
Copper Figure Pendant Item Number: Price:
$125 |
This piece also started as a frozen copper water pipe. Native peoples actually used the first trade kettles more for utility items than they did to cook in. They already had a cooking system that had worked for centuries. The piece is strung on 2mm dyed leather cord and is accented by two hand made wooden beads of Padouk and Osage Orange. Two original Blue Padre trade beads really set it off.

Hammered copper, and a lot of hand filing, resulted in this little sweetheart. Accented on its 2mm dyed leather cord by two handmade beads of bone and Osage and Padouk woods, this is a heart is divided by a single handmade glass bead, crafted in the old way, by dear friends of mine. The bead actually has copper filings incorporated in its manufacture. |

Another chunk of that broken brass water valve, hammered flat, and filed and filed. Really pleased with this one and it is set off with two replica, Green Chevron trade beads, two hand made natural bone hairpipes, capped with two hollow brass trade beads. Strung on a soft piece of my brain-tanned buckskin lace. |
The Hinge Pendant Item Number: Price: $90 |
Started this one with an old flat piece of brass shim stock. All marks are hand filed, and while I was doing this piece I envisioned an 18th Century Native American finding a brass hinge on a cast- away broken cabinet. I also envisioned eventually making my own hinges, Hmm. Bottom, center, filing is of the then very popular weeping heart. This piece is as is for now but will be, could be easily embellished with further accents. Strung, for now, on 2mm leather cord, adjustable. (This piece YOU and I could customize together.) |
