Bobcat Item
Number: Price: $175 |
One of my earliest belt buckles, and still one of my favorites. My belt buckles are most frequently done on shed elk antler burrs. The design is drawn first with pencil, then cut with tiny incised lines and filled with ink. This is approx. 3 across. Fits belts 1 and ¼ to 1 and ½.
Three Spots of Turquoise Item Number: Price:
$70 |
Made from the crotch of the fork of a whitetail antler. This is one of the pieces of antler which is least used in my craft. The turquoise cabochans are set in silver bezels.Fits belts up to 1 ¼ |

Enlarge Photo | Another Cat Item Number: Price: $70 |
Made from the last fork of a shed whitetail antler, shows the inimitable bobcat, master of camouflage. Gotta love that animal! Fits belts up to 1 and 1/8. |
Enlarge Photo | Cautious Buck Item Number: Price: $90 |
Made from the last fork of an extremely palmated whitetail shed antler, this buckles scrimshaw shows a real fine specimen of the species, doing what they do best, being EXTREMELY cautious. Some relief around the figure. Fits belts to an inch and a quarter. |
Flint Ridge Point Item Number: Price: $100 |
Ahhh, the history of this piece makes it really special. The arrow point is a piece of banded Flint Ridge (Ohio) Chert. It came out of another Knappers waste pile, discarded for a quartz line that made working it difficult at best. Originally, when I finished the point, it had a perfect red sunburst near its center. Unfortunately, one of my students dropped it on a concrete floor and so the sun set. No use crying over what could have been its still an incredible piece. Some relief around the point, about 2 and ½ across, fits Belts to 1 and ¾. |

Puma Item
Number: Price: $90 |
This is actually the work of one of my best students, and I am proud to offer it. The Puma is done on a smaller, two year old shed elk burr. I like it; I think you will, too. Relieved around the figure. Approximately 3 across, fits belts to 1 and ¾
Wolf Item
Number: Price: $125 |
Another of the same students work, again, great enough to be offered here. A cold, hard stare from a timber wolf. How does life get any better? Light relief around the figure, 3 across, fits belts to 1 and ¾.
Bighorn Item Number: Price: $175 |
This buckle celebrates our wild sheep. They are just one of many ultimate survivors, and with eyesight that rivals our best optic science. They live in places we havent spoiled yet, and that we should begin to set aside for that very reason. Relieved around the ram, about three inches across, this buckle will also fit belts to about 1 and ¾.
Bugling Elk Item Number: Price: $150 |
For those who have never heard a bull elk bugle it is an unforgettable experience. But it is just one very special note in the symphony of the mountains. Music is also one of the special ways our Creator talks to us. Belt buckle is about 3 across, relieved around the elk, fits belts to 1 and ¾
Smaller Bugling Elk Item Number: Price: $100 |
A slightly smaller version of the previous buckle, this one measure about 2 and ½ across and is relieved around the elk. Still fits belts to 1 and ¾
His Majesty Item Number: Price: $175 |
Taken from B&W artwork I did for a friend, this larger buckle, to me, exemplifies the raw power and majesty of the species. This one is nearly 4 across, and came from the shed antler of a bull that had reached his full potential as King of his mountain! Relieved about the figure, fits belts to 1 and ¾.
Roosted Bird Item Number: Price: later! |
In Progress!! I put this piece in my line-up to give you a glimpse how these pieces unfold. This shows the initial sketch in pencil. I will eventually cut each line with a tiny stillus point of hardened steel, and then meticulously ink those scratches. This is going to be one of my best yet! Please dont hesitate to talk to me about it.
Two Flyin Birds Item Number: Price: $175 |
One of my favorite themes to scrimshaw: inspired by one of Ned Smiths exceptional pieces of artwork. This motif says the birds won, this time. They most often do. Relief cut about both birds, the buckle is just barely 3 across and fits belts to 1 and ¾.
Full Color Strutting Gobbler Item Number: Price: $300 |
This is the last buckle I did in 2005; and represents the state of my art at this time. It is the culmination of long experimentation in a new technique of infusing multi-directional cuts and auxiliary colors to suggest iridescence. It is deeply relieved. I am very proud of the results. The buckle is a full 3 and ¼ across and fits belts to 1 and ¾. It is the third of its kind, and will be duplicated (to the best of my abilities) only on special request.
Spooked Item
Number: Price: $250 |
This buckle is one of the last of 2005. It is taken from a piece of B & W 2- dimensional charcoal artwork I did years ago, called Spooked. The background suggests the forest floor in the magical days of Spring, complete with the prized Morel mushroom: a special treat for those who go to the mountains every Spring. Im real proud of this one, too. Bout three inches across. Fits belts to 1 and ¾.
Brown Phase Black Bear Item Number: Price: $250 |
One of the finest bear scrimshaws Ive ever cut. Buckle is three inches across, and is not relieved. Fits belts to 1 and ¾ wide |
